GAINESVILLE, Fla. — After hosting dozens of top targets during spring ball, things will continue to heat up for Florida recruiting as summer approaches.
The Gators are scheduled to bring in five official visitors this weekend, including top-50 overall cornerbacks Chris Steele (Bellflower, Calif.) and Derek Stingley Jr. (Baton Rouge, La.). Both will be making their second trip to Florida this year.
Stingley attended the Orange & Blue Game in April and Steele made his way to campus last month for the inagural Great Gator Grill-Out. Florida is in Stingley’s top 3 along with LSU and Texas, while Steele appears to be high on Florida, Miami, Oklahoma and Southern Cal.
Stingley and Steele are ranked the nation’s No. 1 and No. 4 cornerbacks, respectively, in the 247Sports composite.
The Gators will host a pair of linemen from the Peach State in 4-star defensive tackle Jaelin Humphries(Lawrencville, Ga.) and 3-star guard Riley Simonds (Buford, Ga.). Both visited Gainesville during the spring and the Gators are one of their top teams.
Simonds, the No. 16-ranked guard in the country, plans to commit this summer and his finalists are Florida and Virginia Tech. The Gators made the cut for Humphries, ranked the No. 13 DT nationally, when he announced his top 10 last month.
Florida will also host JUCO tight end Lucas Krull from Jefferson College in Hillsboro, Mo. The 6-foot-7, 255-pound Krull signed with Arkansas out of high school as a baseball recruit, but is now pursuing a football career.
